The Inca were expert farmers food was never a worry in the Inca empire. Many people in the Inca empire lived in the Andes mountains where there isn't much flat land so they created there own flat land by building terraces. A terrace is when they built steps down a mountain so there was flat land, rain water was channeled through each step which made it a very effective farming system. The three plants the Inca relied on were potatoes, corn and quinoa. Although those were the most commonly eaten they grew many other plants such as Oca, Yacon, squash, capuli cherrys, berries, passion fruit, papaya and walnuts. The Inca grew such an abundance of food they dried a lot of their food and stored it. It has even been said they'd store years worth of food they grew so much.
